Thank you for the many years you have trusted us to lift your prayers unto the Lord.  For over fifty years, we have been committed to praying for others by name and need. OurPrayer may be a new name, but we promise to continue in the long-standing traditions that have undergirded this prayer ministry since its inception in 1950. Praying for people who need God’s touch upon their lives is our first priority.  With the technology of today, we can now pray with them on the internet at their moment of need in real time.

How did it all start?
In 1950, staff began meeting for prayer on Monday mornings. The following year, Guideposts magazine readers were invited to share their prayer requests with us. They responded by sending 175 letters over the next six months. At that time praying for others became our priority.

OurPrayer ministry began recruiting volunteers in 1975 to help respond to the many prayer requests received each year. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s an explosion of requests came through the mail, but gradually the telephone and internet eliminated the barriers presented by letter writing.

In 1995 the toll-free Prayer Line was launched, and volunteers prayed with callers in need of prayer. At the same time, requests for prayer started coming to us online. By 1999, the number of prayer requests grew to 220,800 with the internet seeing the most significant growth.

Where are we going?
Last year, we touched a half million people through the power of prayer. By 2017, our vision is to expand the outreach to 10 million people. With the creation of OurPrayer communities, we expect to see an explosion of prayer around the world that is unprecedented. Community builds relationship, relationship fosters inspiration, inspiration motivates hearts, and a heart on fire for God is filled with the compassion to pray for others in need. United in prayer, we will see the world change, one life at a time.
