Happy New Year!

Good news! Lots of site updates were posted today. Here's a brief overview of what's new...

First, we've completely changed the left navigation throughout the site. You will notice the new Fly-Out menu that you can use once you log in. This new menu allows you to get to any of your prayer space content from anywhere in the site.

Next, take a look at your profile (click on the Your Profile link at the top of the left navigation). Here you will find a much more user friendly interface that allows you to personalize all of your prayer space settings. Please take a moment to update your privacy settings.

The Prayer Box and Messaging functionality has been completely revamped. Now you should find it much easier to communicate and prayer with your friends and groups.

We're continuing to make changes throughout the site and you should expect that we'll be pushing more updates in the weeks to come. In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Andy

Making Progress?

Belive it or not, we're making progress on the implementation of site improvements.

The design and development teams are working really hard to make vast improvements to the site interface and I really think your gonna like them.

Right now, it looks like updates are going to be phased in. We'll likely start with the registration and profile area and then work our way into the community area.

Having seen the new design and functionality, I'm very excited and I really think that it's going to make the site a much better place to spend time, meet friends, and pray.

Messages and notifications

I can really amuse myself...

Spelling was never a strong area for me. I guess that's why I'm into technology and not a writer. Anyway, the thing is, whenever I write the word "Messages" I always get it confused with "Massages." What is funny (at least to me) is that those two words took on totally contradictory meanings over the past few weeks. The last thing I thought of when I saw the word "Message" was being in a relaxed, tranquil state.

Well, I really think we have the phantom message bug resolved now. Thanks to all of you that took the time to keep me posted on our progress - It was very helpful and much appreciated!

Now, I wish we had a phantom massage bug (:

Clear that Cache!

Clearing your cache can significantly improve the speed and performance of your browser. Why? Each time you access a file through your web browser, the browser caches (stores) it. In this way, the files (including any images on the page) do not have to be retrieved anew from the remote web site each time you click the Back or Forward buttons.

You should periodically clear the cache to allow your browser to function more efficiently.

The following procedures provide steps to clear the cache memory for a variety of browsers:

-------------------------

Clearing Cache on Safari 1.0 / Safari 2.0 for Macintosh OS X

Open Safari.

Select Empty Cache.

Click Empty on the Are you sure message box.

R U GETTING THE MESSAGE?

So, as some of you know, we've been experiencing intermittent issues with our messaging system. The problem seems to be that occasionally you might receive a notification in your email that you have a message in your OurPrayer messages. But when you log in, lo and behold, there's nothing.

Well, in an effort to fix this problem, we made some adjustments to our server configuration. In fact, we made the adjustments at around 8:30PM (eastern) on Thursday night.

Since that time, I have not seen any reports of this issue showing up again. So I'm thinking...either we fixed the issue or you are all sick and tired of reporting this bug.

So here's the $64,000 question... Are you getting the message? Have any of you experienced this issue since 8:30PM Thursday night? PLEASE let me know! I'd like to hear if the notifications are working or not.

And remember, you will only get these notifications if you have configured your preferences to send you notifications. This is controlled in your Preference settings that are located in the left menu.

Thanks again for all of your help!

Andy

POSTING A PRAYER REQUEST
Here's how to post a prayer request to a group that you have created or joined.

1) Log into the OurPrayer website. If you are not logged on, the system will not know who you are and what groups you belong to.

2) Submit a prayer request in any of the yellow OurPrayer Boxes. This functionality will work in all OurPrayer Boxes with the exception of a Prayer Event box (such as Thanksgiving Day of Prayer).

3) Once you submit your prayer, and if your logged in, you will recive the following options:

1. Keep Private
2. Public without first name
3. Public with first name
4. Public with Username
5. Personal Prayer Response

You can choose the options of your choice. If you are not sure what they mean, just click on the option word (ex: Keep Private) and a pop-up will explain. You may need to configure your internet browser to allow pop-ups from the OurPrayer site.

4) Now, you can add your group to the distribution list. You should see two boxes under the prayer options that I mentioned above. One will say Send to Group(s) and one will say Send to Friend(s). You will only see these options if you belong to a Group and/or have Frinds in OurPrayer.

5) That’s it! Now just click on the Add options to my request button and your Prayer Request will show up in your Groups Recent Prayer Request.

Server Reconfiguration

Just keeping you all in the loop...

We're testing out a new server configuration. Our hope is that this new set-up will fix some of the more random issues that we have all been experiencing.

Thanks for your patience!

OurPrayer Site Updates

First, I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during the beta development phase of OurPrayer. We've come a long way and still have a lot of work ahead. Please hang in there - this site will be a special place.

For now, I will use my blog to report general bugs, fixes, and site updates as they happen. I'll try to post updates as frequently as possible.

Here goes:

The issue that we were having with Chat seems to be resolved. We will continue to modify some of the chat and IM functionality to ensure smooth running.

We are having ongoing issues with the delivery of messages and invitiations. We are close to fixing this issue and I'll provide updates as this resolution is implemented.

The People Search functionality should now be working better in the community section. We continue to tweak the global site search.

Screen Savers are now working properly. Give 'em a try at www.ourprayer.org/Screensavers/

You may have noticed that the dates on Answered Prayers were not always displaying properly - now they are www.ourprayer.org/AnsweredPrayers/

Thanks again for your patience and understanding and stay tuned for more updates.

Andy
